Corporate History

 1988 Mar. Orient Marine Co.,Ltd was estabished on 29th March,1988 by way of separating the then called ''Ship Operation Business Dept'' within Ship and Marine Project Division of Mitsui & Co.,Ltd to become an independent entity as an shipowning, managing and chartering arm of Mitsui.
The company was established by 7-8 people and an office opened in Kanda-Ogawacho; the company’s first president was Hirofumi Munakata.
 
 1989 Apr. Relocated to Kanda-Jimbocho.
Concurrently, the Ship Machinery and Component Group of the Ship and Marine Project Division of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. was spun off and merged with Orient Marine.
 
 1991 Oct. Second Hand Sales and Purchase Group of the Ship and Marine Project Division of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. was spun off and merged with Orient Marine.
At this point, Orient Marine had 28 employees.
 
 1992 Apr. The Ship Machinery and Component Group was spun off from Orient Marine, and Toyo Ship Machinery Co., Ltd. founded as a fellow subsidiary.
Following this, Orient Marine’s business operations have focused on its four functional pillars: supervison of new building vessels and consulting, ship management, chartering and broking of owned and client vessels, second hand vessels' sales and purchase broking.
 
 2001 Nov. An Orient Marine office was established in Amsterdam and began offering chartering operations and post fixture accounting services to European shipping firms.
   
 2003 Nov. Relocated to the Hibiya Dai Bldg., Uchisaiwacho, Chiyoda-ku
 
 2005 May An Orient Marine office was established in Singapore as a branch of the Ship Management Department; it currently provides ship management services for some 10 bulk carriers and tankers.
 
 2006 Dec. An Orient Marine office was established in Hamburg thus reinforcing our provision of shipping-related services to European shipping firms.
