What backgrounds do mid-career hires typically have?

Approximately 99% of our workforce consists of mid-career hires. While some employees come directly from the shipping and logistics industries, many others bring diverse expertise from travel agencies, hospitality, finance, real estate, IT, recruitment agencies, manufacturing, and public institutions. Our employees successfully leverage their unique background experiences to thrive within the company.

What training programs are available?

In addition to structured on-the-job training (OJT) and internal departmental programs, employees are eligible to participate in various professional training programs organized by the Mitsui & Co. Group. With managerial approval, we also support participation in external development programs. Furthermore, we provide global opportunities such as overseas language and practical business training.

What is the retirement policy?

After the mandatory retirement age of 60, we offer a reemployment system that allows employees to continue working up to the age of 65, supporting ongoing, stable career development.

Where is the workplace located?

While there are occasional opportunities for international assignments to our overseas offices, the primary workplace is our Tokyo headquarters. Domestically, we also operate a strategic sales office in Imabari.

What leave systems are available?

From their first year of employment, staff are entitled to 20 days of annual leave, which is calculated on a pro-rata basis depending on the month of joining. Paid annual leave may be taken in one-hour increments. We also offer childcare and carer's leave, maternity leave and a reduced working hours system.

We operate international offices in major global maritime hubs, including Singapore, Switzerland, Germany, and Denmark. Clear opportunities for overseas assignments and international relocation are available for employees who aspire to expand their horizons and build a truly global career.

What benefits are available for childcare and family care?

To support a seamless balance between career and family, we provide a comprehensive ecosystem including remote work options, staggered working hours, shortened schedules, and hourly paid leave, alongside babysitter vouchers and subsidies for standard childcare expenses. Notably, we have introduced a program that subsidies half of the extended childcare fees for employees who choose to return to work early. For family care, our regulations fully comply with statutory requirements, complemented by cafeteria plan benefits that allow employees to purchase caregiving supplies at discounted rates.

What is the childcare leave uptake rate among male employees?

From April 2024 to March 2025, our childcare leave uptake rate among eligible male employees was 100% (all three eligible employees successfully took their leave). We have cultivated a supportive workplace culture that makes it seamless and encouraging for male employees to utilize childcare leave.
